ARTIST BIO

Christopher Lamb is a passionate Artist whose landscapes are painted with free, confident and energetic brushstrokes, resulting in colourful immediacy and intensity in his compositions. Christopher's subject matter reflects his love of all things Australian, the bush, the ocean, the streetscapes of our cities and the unique characters of our folklore. Within these subjects he endeavours to imbue a feeling or message in his paintings, other than just a decorative representation. Christopher's inspiration comes from the works of the French Impressionists, particularly Monet. In addition, the later works of the English Artists, Turner, Constable and Seago. The later works of McCubbin have also been of great motivation. He has made a number of visits to the United Kindgdom to study their paintings on exhibition. Christophers' artistic journey started at an early age with an innate love of Art. This was encouraged by his highly creative family. Educated at Geelong Technical School he excelled in Art classes. Further education continued with an industrial design Diploma course at the Gordon Institute. Aged eighteen he experienced his first successful exhibition at the Johnstone Park Art Show Geelong, where all his paintings were purchased. His capabilities and love of Art were further nurtured over a number of years attending the Mitchell School of Arts, Charles Sturt University NSW. Under the tuition of Paul McCarthy and additional instruction with Colley Whisson and John Perkins he gained the appreciation of Impressionism and working with oils. Encouraged by these artists he exhibited in successive years at Bathurst University and also "Frogmore House", University of Western Sydney. Christopher is a multi award winning Artist in regional competitions, his most recent award Best Oil at the Birregurra Art Show. In 2010 he was selected from a large number of Artists to exhibit in the Geelong Regional Artists Exhibition at the Gordon Gallery.  In 2011 he was invited by the Curator of the Australian National Wool Museum to exhibit his painting of the historic bluestone mansion "Osborne House" for public viewing over an extended period. His paintings are represented in private collections in Australia and the United Kingdom. He now works from his studio at his place of residence in the rural environment of Ceres in the Barrabool Hills near Geelong. This location gives him an appreciation of the elemental landscapes and infinate variables of environment and nature that is reflected in his work. Christopher Lamb is a participating member of the Geelong Art Society.
